Got back into the thumb of Michigan just in time to get out for the evening hunt. My dad had been seeing plenty of deer so I decided to sit in his blind with his crossbow and try to fill a tag. I started seeing deer immediately and had three does on the bait by 4:30. I studied these does very closely trying to decide whether to take a shot or not. I decided it was too early to shoot with so much activity in the area. I ended up seeing about 25 deer total that night (not all in range). At about 5PM I saw a large body move through the trees and out popped this 8 point. He came into the bait at just under 30 yards and I made a great shot right into his heart. I watched him go down after about 150 yards.
This was my first deer with a crossbow and as Matt has stated it was a great tool for the job. A nice, quick, clean kill and I was able to dress with extra layers to stay warm.
It was a great way to end a long season in which I carried all three of my tags into late December. NEVER GIVE UP!!
